Welcome! I’m Nikki.
I've spent my career at the intersection of mental health and the human-animal bond, and it's never felt like a choice between the two. It's always been both.
As a licensed social worker with experience supporting veterinary professionals and students, including an internship at Colorado State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, I've seen firsthand how much this profession gives - and it doesn’t always give back to the people within it. That's what inspired Windthrow Collective.
Through this work, I serve veterinary professionals and students in a coaching capacity, facilitating ASAP groups and delivering psychoeducation to clinics and hospitals. While my clinical background informs everything I do, Windthrow Collective operates outside of a therapy framework, making support more accessible, more flexible, and available to helping professionals wherever they are.
My connection to animals runs deep. I grew up alongside a family dog, bunnies, birds, and reptiles, and a love of horses which led me to a career in therapeutic horseback riding. Today I am ruled by two dogs, Hank and Oliver.
If you're in vetmed and have found yourself running on empty, I'd love to connect. If you are interested in pursuing individual therapy with me, please visit Through the Woods Counseling.
